Trump under fire after proposing a double vote in North Carolina

The US President, Mr. Donald Trump came under fire after proposing a double vote in North Carolina. The president will face his Democratic rival Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential election on November 3rd.

The president, seeking re-election and referring to the critical North Carolina battlefield, urged residents to vote twice.

He advised them to vote once by mail and once in person, which caused a sensation as it suggested he might be pushing for election fraud.

During an interview with WECT-TV in Wilmington on Wednesday, the president said the North Carolina should send it in and also vote. However, he added that if the system is to be good as it is suggested, it is not recommended to vote in person.

Amid fears of the current pandemic spreading, which has killed more than 883,000 people globally and   192,000 only in US, the upcoming presidential election will be more of a mail-in vote. However, the president has repeatedly asserted, without even providing any evidence that it will allow fraud.

The claims have been opposed by some experts in the US, who believe that election fraud is rare in the country.

Not only is it illegal to vote twice in North Carolina, but it is illegal in any part of the country, or even when voting in the diaspora. It is also illegal to induce others to do so. Some top figures in the state of North Carolina have responded to Trump’s proposal.

Josh Stein, the North Carolina Attorney General tweeted that Trump had disgracefully reinvigorated North Carolinians to go against the law to help him wreak havoc in the upcoming election.

In a similar tweet, he urged voters to vote, but not twice. He added that he would do everything possible to ensure that the will of the Americans is respected in the upcoming elections in November.

The other top figure who responded to Trump’s claim was Patrick Gannon, a spokesman for the North Carolina State Board of Elections, who said it was not possible for a person to cast two ballots, whether they were mailed first or in-person voted. He added that the first vote that comes in and that is counted is important.

Gannon added that voting twice is a crime in an American voting system. He added that if you vote via email, your personal vote counts, and then it is delayed and voted in person. And if the late mail voting is shown after the personal voting, it will not be counted.

The White House and Trump’s campaign team have denied that he wanted to cheat the election.

Kayleigh McEnany, the Whitehouse spokeswoman, was quoted by Fox News Chanel as saying that Trump said if the vote was not counted, then vote again and not suggesting anyone doing anything illegal.

In the 2016 presidential election, almost one in four voters cast their votes by mail because they couldn’t make it to the polls. And this year it will be a record due to the current contagious COVID-19.
