Trump considers locking down New York

The world is shaking from the outbreak that originated in China. The Americans were not exempt from this new type of coronavirus and they are now leading in a number of confirmed cases. The state of New York appears to be the epicenter of the virus in the United States. There are more cases in New York than in any other state in America.

The state has registered more than 52,000 positive cases, which is about half of all 123,781 cases reported across the country.

To slow down the spread within the state, President Donald Trump is considering introducing a quarantine measure. Trump tells reporters that quarantine measures should be imposed in New York, as this is now a hotspot for the virus.

The New York governor Andrew Cuomo, however, does not agree with the president and considers the quarantine idea to be absurd, anti-American and a declaration of war.

According to the governor, the state had already tested quarantine measures that prohibited larger gatherings and instructed people to stay at home.

He is ready to be blocked yet but believes that the previous geographic restriction not to leave the house is already a block.

The governor added that the quarantine will make the state like Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province in China, and will make no sense. It will crash the stock market. This will weigh on the US economy and it will take months, if not years, to resume. This will also paralyze the financial sector.

Earlier, Mr. Cuomo had reported that he had called Mr. Trump on the phone and no state quarantine was mentioned during the conversation. He added that he will sue Rhode Island if its authorities continue to take action against the New Yorker by threatening to punish them for not being quarantined.

New York has also been described by Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo as the hot zone for the virus. The governor also mobilizes the soldiers to seek out those who leave the state.

Before visiting the U.S. Navy ship in Virginia, the president said that New Jersey and some regions of Connecticut could also be subject to stringent quarantine measures. He added that it is not certain whether the quarantine will be imposed at the locations mentioned, but there is a possibility for a short term, for example two weeks.

But Mr. Cuomo was concerned about the idea when he held a daily press conference on Saturday.

The governor does not know how this can be legally enforced from a medical perspective. He added that he didn’t even like the sound and didn’t understand it either.

The president did not give a detailed preview of the effects that the quarantine of New York or other state could have on the United States. But he said it was only to slow the spread of the virus to other states in the United States.

Such measures in New York will not be the first time. Similar measures already exist in other parts of the world, where there is now a permanent closure, bans on public gatherings and restrictions on travel to and from the affected area.
